Cop Finds Baby In Hot Car, Shatters Window. Pulls Baby To Safety, Learns He’s Made Horrible Mistake

Lt. Jason Short received a 911 call about a baby abandoned alone in a car on a blazing hot day.

He immediately raced over to the Keene, New Hampshire, shopping square parking lot to investigate.

What he saw was horrifying.

A blanket was wrapped over a car seat. Tiny feet were sticking out from beneath the blanket. It all happened on a blazing sunny day. The temperature was 90 degrees. So the next thing he did was trying to rescue the baby. Jason Short broke the window on the car to try to rescue the poor fellow.

He pulled the baby out of the car using his short baton. After that, he called an ambulance, frightened that the baby was dead already.

People gathered around to see what was going on. The baby’s skin was blotchy and white.

Lt. Jason Short tried to rescue the baby with CPR rescue breaths. But something was really weird.

He moved his finger to the baby’s mouth and recognized the baby was not breathing. The baby looked like a plastic dummy.

The owner of the car was Carolynne Seiffert. While this scene was happening she was getting a new haircut at Super Cuts.

Seiffert was angered that her car was damaged. Short was a bit embarrassed by the situation but has stood by his actions.

Carolynne Seiffert was outraged that someone broke the window of her car trying to save a doll. Short was caught in a corner. He was embarrassed but stood by his actions.

Short reported to WMUR, “I would never assume that it’s a doll. I would always assume that it’s a child. I would never do anything different.”

That doll is worth $2,300. The doll weighs 10 pounds, 7 ounces and has an authentic baby outfit. Nevertheless, no one was hurt that’s the most important thing at the end of the day.

That idiot woman should hide her head(and new haircut) in shame! A baby dying in a hot car is no joke! The officer acted correctly.

You are so very right on that. The stupid thing should have either covered it completely or put it in the truck, to leave a doll that looks so real like that is inviting trouble. And they make dolls to look as real as real can get so most people would have thought and done the same as the cop…

What a sick bitch! I pray the officer is not charged and the bitch has to pay for the damage to her car and her PRANK on the police officer. Any responsible person coming by would have done the same thing. This woman needs more than a haircut. As a mother of 2 I would never buy a doll that looked like that in the first place. It clearly looks not right and only a very sick person would buy it. And she bought it for herself to pretend she has a child. SICk! SICK! sick!

A $2,300 DOLL? If she can afford that, she can afford a new car easy! I have no sympathy!

If she wants to pretend she has a child with a realistic doll, then she should treat it as she would a child!! I stand behind the officer 1000%. He didn’t just do the right thing, he did the ONLY THING!

The Officer was right in what he did. I think she did to see what would happen. She should get a ticket.

    August 2, 2017 at 1:56 am

The officer did the right thing. She should not be hauling a realistic looking doll around in the car and leaving it alone in the heat. The blame is on her for being stupid. The value of the doll alone left in the open is proof of her stupidity.

I understand that she got the doll to help her cope with the death of her son. My one of many questions, if it was that important to her WHY THE HELL did she leave the doll in the car? She has no one to blame but herself for having her windows broke out!!! I am speaking as a mother who has lost a child.

      August 3, 2017 at 6:36 pm

No Words for a women that has lost a child and then gets angry that her toy was so life like and left in the hot car,and someone thought it was a real baby. At least we know that officer was doing his job. Thank you sir

    • Suzy

      August 7, 2017 at 4:22 pm

That would not be my idea of coping with the death of her son. It would make me wonder what her son passed away from? This was cruel of her. If she’s coping, she should have put the doll out of sight or better yet, taken it with her if it’s such a comfort to her.

The officer did the right thing. You really have to ask yourself what kind of woman of this age would have a doll in with her and in a car seat yet!

      • Mary

        August 7, 2017 at 4:16 pm

Maybe it was her kid’s, dummy. But she still can’t blame the officer. Shouldn’t have left it in the car if it looked so real.

Thank God that it was a doll and not a real baby. But my question is why would a grown up drive around with a life like doll worth $2300.00 dressed in baby clothes and in a car seat if it weren’t planned or staged? IDK , just glad it was a fake ànd that officer didn’t have a dead baby on his conscience for the rest of his life.

  17. Tom D.

    August 2, 2017 at 11:56 am

Obviously, the cop did what he SHOULD have done. Good for him! As for the owner of the doll, I really question her mindset as to why she didn’t put one of those signs on the window BEFORE a foreseeable event like this happened.

Why would anyone in their right freaking mind make it look like there was a real baby there? Who would put a doll in a car seat with a blanket over it to make it look real? What a stupid women. The cop did nothing wrong as he was doing what he thought was right in a situation where the stupid women made it look like a real baby.

  25. Suzanne

    August 2, 2017 at 3:06 pm

He did what was right. What she did by leaving the doll in the car like it was real, was wrong. There was no way to tell that it wasn’t a real baby. If she had left a note on the doll, saying this is a realistic doll and is not a real baby, then this could all have been avoided. The lady caused the problem and she should apologize to the policeman for causing him concern.

He did a GREAT AND HONORABLE JOB!!! God will bless you for you kindness, fast action, good judgement!!!

There was not a minute to lose. He did the right thing. The doll looked very much like a child. There was no way he could have done anything different. To second guess himself could have cost a life.

Thank you for your bravery in rescuing what appeared to be a child out of a hot car.

    • Mike Bennett

      August 5, 2017 at 12:53 pm

Chares, I take it you are a liberal, on food stamps and probably not a real American. Why have a go at the police, are you also an illegal? You place the police in a lose lose situation as you would be blaming the police if it was a real baby and had died. Your comments should be directed to the stupid woman who should not have left it on partial display.

    The woman is a asshole..
She knew damn well that the doll looked real, and anyone seeing it in a car on a hot day, would have done the the same thing as the officer..
The police should NOT pay for her window. She wants to screw around with the police and a doll, then make her responsible for it.
The cop did the right thing.
I hope this lady needs help some day. Because if I were part of this police department, I would tell her, “screw you”, we have more important things to do than play around with a piece of shit like you.

  35. Ricky Bennett

    August 3, 2017 at 3:54 pm

I believe the officer did the right thing. What if he did nothing and it turned out to be a real baby. I hope other police officers would do the same thing. This woman was to blame so she shouldn’t be upset over her damaged car. To the officer KEEP UP THE GOOD JOB!!!!!!

How stupid can you be, Sam? Suppose it was a real baby in there and the policeman decided he should not break thewindow? Boy, oh boy, would we all , including you, be more than upset with him. He did what was right and you know it.

IF this cop hesitates next time because of her prank, this woman should be charged with child endangerment. She got what she deserved.

  40. Steve Garvey

    August 7, 2017 at 5:39 pm

This is an unfortunate situation. The officer responded correctly for the information that was available to him at the time. Hot day, apparent trapped child, motionless….conclusion, break window and rescue child. However, it was a doll. Unless intent to set up the police can be proven, the officer is responsible for the damage. No laws were broken, it is not illegal to lock a doll in your car. Was it bad judgement on the woman’s part, yes. Did the officer make the right call, yes. Was it illegal, no. The officer damaged private property when no crime was committed.

Truth is, she bought the doll because she had lost her son at birth… that is what they said in the news video. and some people buy these dolls to help cope.

Well, if that is the case I am glad she doesnt have real baby, because the likelihood that she would have left the child in the car is exactly the case here.

A doll that looks like a real baby worth $2,300 in an enclosed car on a 90 degree day with a blanket over it? I would be afraid the heat would of damaged it. 90 out, inside had to be at least 130 degrees. Very sloppy in how this woman views the word “value”. I wonder what her house looks like (out of curiosity)
